Golf designer Brad Gehl and design studio Concrete Cat team up to bring their unique surrealist aesthetic to the world of golf.
Their debut “AGUSTUS” is a putting aid designed with inspiration from MacDonald, Dali and Gaudi. It’s a highly functional training gate that’s a beautifully hand crafted piece to elevate your home or office.
Golf courses have continued to evolve over the years but the greatest architect is still Mother Nature, using sand dunes amongst links-land as her purest canvas. Agustus pays homage to those natural relationships that gave to way timeless golf courses and is made up of purely natural resources within its concrete structure. The Agustus is the symbol for all that is beautiful and difficult in the creation of golf’s hallowed grounds. Matt (one half of Concrete Cat) lives in this conversation applying his architectural mastery to questions of design and intent, giving concrete’s nature to the undulating and formless shapes that you see in dreams; ethereal. Dreams have the concepts of shape behind them but no matter to bind a shape into one defined form.
At 108mm across the gate holds the same standards of a regulation putting cup while designed to receive a putt at an optimally paced speed, specifically 17 inches past the cup. With a weight of 1 kilo it’s incredibly solid and rewardingly acoustic, feeling like you're putting into a rock that’s melded with the ground.
Agustus is a chameleon that blends into the background when not in use. It’s a beautiful addition to your home that sits well on your desk, back door or kitchen, catching your odds and ends and waiting for you to squeeze in a little practice. A highly technical putting aid that doesn’t look like a highly technical putting aid.
